Panchakarma

Panchakarma is a comprehensive Ayurvedic detoxification and rejuvenation therapy that consists of five main cleansing procedures. In Sanskrit, "Pancha" means five, and "Karma" means action or procedure. Panchakarma aims to purify the body by eliminating toxins, balancing doshas (energetic forces), and restoring health and vitality.

The five primary procedures of Panchakarma are:

Vamana (Therapeutic Emesis)

This involves the administration of herbal medicines to induce controlled vomiting, expelling excess Kapha dosha from the upper respiratory tract and stomach. Vamana is beneficial for conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, allergies, and skin disorders.

Virechana (Therapeutic Purgation)

Virechana involves the intake of herbal laxatives to induce controlled bowel movements, eliminating excess Pitta dosha and toxins from the body. It helps to treat conditions such as jaundice, skin disorders, digestive issues, and liver disorders.

Basti (Enema Therapy)

Basti involves the administration of herbal decoctions and oils into the rectum to cleanse and rejuvenate the colon. There are two types of Basti: Niruha Basti (medicated decoction enema) and Anuvasana Basti (medicated oil enema). Basti helps to balance Vata dosha, improve digestion, alleviate constipation, and nourish tissues.

Nasya (Nasal Administration)

Nasya involves the administration of herbal oils or powders into the nasal passages to cleanse and rejuvenate the head and neck region. It helps to alleviate sinus congestion, headaches, migraine, insomnia, and improve sensory perception.

Raktamokshana (Bloodletting Therapy)

Raktamokshana is the purification of blood through techniques such as venesection (bloodletting) or leech therapy. It helps to remove impurities from the blood, improve circulation, and treat conditions such as skin disorders, gout, and inflammatory conditions.
